Dr. Allison Gunzburg is a board
certified comprehensive ophthalmologist specializing in cornea and
refractive surgery. Dr. Gunzburg attended the University of Illinois
where she majored in Accountancy. After being licensed as a Certified
Public Accountant, she worked in public accounting before returning to
medical school to pursue a lifelong interest in medicine.
Dr. Gunzburg attended Northwestern University Medical
School in Chicago where she was attracted to the field of ophthalmology
because of the detail and precision of ophthalmic surgery. After
graduating from medical school, she completed a medical internship at
Ravenswood Hospital in Chicago. She completed her residency program in
ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery at the University of Chicago where
she received the Excellence in Patient Care Award.
Dr. Gunzburg moved to St. Louis to train in Cornea
and Refractive Surgery with one of the top cornea specialists in the
Midwest. She received extensive experience in cataract, cornea, and
refractive surgery. After finishing her fellowship training, Dr.
Gunzburg practiced ophthalmology in St. Louis and Southern Illinois
where she was listed in St. Louis Magazine’s 2007 Top Doctor Issue.
Special Interests
Dr. Gunzburg has a special interest in dry eye disease.
She believes in educating patients on the many causes of dry eye in
order to better understand the different modalities of treatment. She
approaches this potentially frustrating condition with a great deal of
patience and understanding.
Personal Background
Originally from Chicago, Dr. Gunzburg recently relocated to New
Jersey with her husband and daughter. Her husband is a pilot for
Continental Airlines based in Newark. Her hobbies include yoga,
bicycling, travel, and reading. She is enjoying exploring the
northeast with her family as well as discovering the numerous activities
for children in the New Jersey area.
